For our latest assignment at RCC, we had to come up with an original book cover for a mock book given to us by our teacher. The book was titled "Us and Them: A History of Intolerance in America" referring to different situations such as racism, culture, and many other similar topics. To give you an idea of what the book is about, I copied a few sentences as follows,
“This is the story of some Americans who were hated by others simply for who they were, what they
looked like or what they believed. Their experiences remind us that our democracy is still a work in
progress.” I had an idea in my head and this is the photo that I created to represent this book. I used a pile of marble, painted one black, and left the rest clear, to represent an outcast, or black sheep type of feel to the picture. I shot this at 1/30th of a second at F/5.6 with an ISO of 200. The camera used was a Canon 40D and the lens was at 127 mm. I hope you enjoy this photo. Let me know your feedback, wether you get the idea I was going for or if you don't. Any suggestions or critiques are welcome.
I loved your illustration of the "Us and them" assignment. amazing lighting and color. I like the way the black marble stands among what looks like perfect marbles. But in this world there is no perfect people and sometimes its hard standing out and being different especially when other people come against you for who you are or what you believe or even for how you look.
ReplyDeleteDaniel, this is a great shot! I love the concept of being "black balled" and you illustrated the book very well.
